LANAP Montclair, CA
Safe and Effective Gum Tissue Restoration in Southern California
The laser-assisted new attachment procedure (LANAP®) is a minimally invasive treatment that reverses periodontal (gum) disease. The LANAP® protocol is the only gum disease treatment scientifically and clinically proven to regenerate soft tissue and alveolar bone.
Here at Cunning Dental Group, only our LANAP-trained dentists can perform this FDA-approved procedure and restore balance to your oral health with less postoperative pain, significantly fewer side effects, and minimized risks than traditional surgery.

Difference Between LANAP and Traditional Gum Surgery
If you have moderate to severe periodontal disease, your gums have likely begun pulling away from your teeth, creating pockets. These pockets deepen as the disease progresses, causing eventual bone loss. How conventional perio surgery and PerioLase address them differ greatly.
In traditional gum surgery, a dentist will scrape the inside of those pockets, trying to prevent bone loss since the infected bone will not grow back.
If you choose PerioLase, your periodontist can create a stable environment where your oral cavity can regenerate on its own. Having a very high success rate in gum reconstruction, this procedure can stimulate your gums to reattach to teeth.
An Overview of Your LANAP Procedure
Our Montclair periodontist at Cunning Dental Group will:
- Examine your gums and measure periodontal pockets.
- Use the laser light from the PerioLase MVP-7 to eliminate the infected tissue and destroy the bacteria beneath your gum line.
- Use ultrasonic scalers and other dental equipment to remove hard calcified deposits called tartar or calculus.
- Mold pockets to inhibit the formation of new tartar.
- Use the laser light again to connect gum tissue back to the tooth root.
- Seal periodontal pockets with fibrin clots, which prevents new oral bacteria from entering and provides a sterile environment for your body to begin the healing process.
- Adjust your bite for added protection against bone loss from bite trauma.

A Good Candidate for Laser Periodontal Treatment
If you have moderate to severe gum disease, and especially if you are fearful of conventional scalpel surgery, you can greatly benefit from the LANAP protocol.

The Dangers of Untreated Gum Disease
Over 80 percent of American adults have some degree of gum disease, making it one of the most common diseases in the United States. Yet, as few as 60 percent of Americans know they have it. Making matters worse, only 3 percent of people with moderate to severe gum disease will accept treatment — mostly due to fears and anxieties. If left untreated, periodontal disease can cause recession, loss of bone, and ultimately, permanent tooth loss. If you suspect or know that you have gum disease, getting treatment now can save your smile.
